August 1990. The German artist Gunther Uecker outside the 15th century Rosslyn Chapel, near Roslin village in Midlothian, south of Edinburgh. The chapel is famous for its rich carvings and masonic symbolism. Uecker was in Scotland for his exhibition Pictlandgarden, shown at the RDG, 17-21 Blackfriars Street, Edinburgh, in August for the Edinburgh International Festival.
