The poorhouse, demolished shortly after the photograph was taken, had been the venue for several Demarco projects, including two productions by Tadeusz Tantor's Cricot 2 theatre (The Water Hen (1972) and Lovelies and Dowdies (1973) and the Black and White Oil Conference (Edinburgh Arts, 1974).
