1990. David Mach installation. Venice Biennale.

May 1990. David Mach installing one element of Softening the Hardened Hearts of Men, a series of five elements using photographs of Bonsai trees enlarged to the size of normal trees and bonded to laser-cut steel structures. The installation formed one part of the exhibition Three Scottish Sculptors (with Kate Whiteford and Arthur Watson) at the 44th Venice Biennale. A Scottish Sculpture Trust exhibition selected by Richard Calvocoressi, Richard Demarco and Julian Spalding; commissioner Clare Henry; curators Lynn Sanderson and Angela Wrapson. Related to the status of Glasgow as European City of Culture 1990, Scottish artists were, for the first time, invited to exhibit under a Scottish banner.
